Strong Passwords & Security Threats:
Passwords are the first and usually the weakest link in your online security defense system. Learn how to create Strong passwords that will keep you, your computer and your data Safe and Secure.

Basic Password Security Fundamentals:

Tips for a good password.

  • Use a strong password, meaning something random with numbers and punctuation 10 to 16 characters long.
  • Use a mix of numbers, letters, punctuation and symbols.
  • Take a word or phrase that's meaningful to you and alter it.
  • Replace the first few characters in your password with numbers or symbols.
  • The longer, the better. (10 to 16 characters)
  • Avoid using personal information, repetition, sequences and dictionary words.
  • Use different passwords for each site.
  • If you have used the same password on different sites, switch it to something unique and therefore more secure.
(Tools like 1Password, LastPass, and KeePass make it easy to keep track of different unique logins especially if you have a large number.)

Some folks
store passwords on a password protected USB drive, while others use a password protected spreadsheet or table. Let me know if you can offer other tips for password security.
